I studied at Exeter University Drama Department, where the course was Grotowski based, offering an experimental approach to theatre and its supporting craft. We explored Eastern philosophies as a means of underpinning the work with a rigorous work ethic and used this as a springboard for exploring story telling in its widest sense.
It was here that I found my love of voice work.
After leaving university, I set up a community theatre company before returning to study, this time at Central School of Speech and Drama to focus on Voice and Text. As I continued my work as a writer, performer and musician, I started to become more interested in the written word and did a Masters degree in Dramatic Writing at Sussex University.
By this time I was working in a variety of higher education establishments, where I was directing shows alongside setting up an MA module in Writing at Rose Bruford College.
It was here that I got the opportunity to join the RSC in 2009 and my professional theatre work has developed from there.
Since 2009, I've worked on a long list of award winning shows and with a wide variety of directors and international stars.
These include James Cordon, Anna Maxwell Martin, Ralph Feinnes, Jeremy Irons, Timothy Spall, Christopher Ecclestone, Helen Hunt, John Boyega, Timothy Chalomet, Sarah Snook, Susan Kalechi Watson, Andrew Lincoln, Stephen Mangan, Matt Smith, Claire Foy, Andrew Scott, Indira Varma, Sophie Thompson, Adrian Scarborough, Stephen Campbell Moore, Haydn Gwynne, Ciaran Hinds, Andy Karl, Rufus Sewell, John Simm, Rami Malek and Rhys Ifans.
I've also been fortunate enough to work with many leading world class directors, including Matthew Warchus, Gregory Doran, Michael Boyd, Conor McPherson, John Crowley, Richard Jones, Sam Mendes and Sally Cookson.
All of these people have helped give me a huge insight into the realities and practicalities of the art of theatre and my work has to be nimble enough to adapt to each individual need as a means of supporting their vast experience.
